Medial View of Brainstem. Review major structures seen on the medial surface of the forebrain such as the corpus callosum, fornix, anterior commissure, optic chiasm mammillary body, hypothalamus, thalamus and choroid plexus. Identify all parts of the brainstem and cerebellum. The midbrain, pons and medulla each has a tegmentum (L. covering structure), a region between the vetricular system (with its roof structures) and the base (with its descending fiber bundles). The tegmentum "covers over" the base. The tegmentum contains the cranial nuclei, many other nuclei, and many tracts. We will look at these in the chapter Brainstem Sections.
