Choroid plexus, which forms the cerebrospinal fluid, is itself formed when the pia-ependymal complex invaginates into ventricular spaces and is invaded by vascular structures. The choroid plexus in the lateral ventricles is restricted to the inferior horns, the atria and the bodies and is continuous with the choroid plexus in the third ventricle through the interventricular foramina. The glomus \(shown in the lower figure\) is a local enlargement of the plexus in the atrium of each lateral ventricle. It often calcifies and can then be seen in x-rays. There is no choroid plexus in the cerebral aqueduct, but in the caudal part of the roof of the fourth ventricle strands of choroid plexus extend laterally as far as the lateral exit foramina, from which they protrude into the subarachnoid space.
