A major role of the vestibular system is to signal head position, so that eye and head movements can be coordinated. Afferents from the sensory apparatus in the vestibular labyrinth form the fibers of the vestibular division of the vestibulocochlear nerve \(VIII\) that end primarily in the vestibular nuclear complex in the brainstem.
