The leg input synapses in the posterior nucleus of Clarke \(see Nissl-stained insert at the lower right\) at segmental levels T1 through L2 or 3. To get there, leg input ascends in the posterior column from its entry at lumbar \(and sacral\) levels. Clarke's nucleus gives rise to the posterior spinocerebellar tract on the ipsilateral \(same\) side. The tract ascends and will enter the cerebellum via the inferior cerebellar peduncle.  Arm input has a different route initially; the primary afferent fibers ascend in the posterior column \(cuneate fasciculus portion\) to reach the lateral cuneate nucleus in the caudal medulla.
