(FRAME-INFO (STRING "Cerebellar Cortex, Histology. This is a Nissl-stained section through the three-layered cerebellar cortex. The outermost layer, the molecular layer, has relatively few cells, but contains the unstained dendrites of deeper layer cells \(mainly the Purkinje cells\) as well as input fibers \(the mossy fibers and climbing fibers\) and the axons of the granule cells \(parallel fibers\). The middle layer consists of a single row of Purkinje cells, with large, teardrop-shaped cell bodies \(their axons project to the deep cerebellar nuclei\). The innermost layer \(closest to the white matter\) is the granule cell layer, densely-packed with small granule cells. These cells send their axons up to the molecular layer where each one splits to form a parallel fiber which runs along the long axis of the folium to terminate on the dendrites of several hundred adjacent Purkinje cells \(see frames 23 & 24 above for  schematics of the cerebellar cortex\).
